Poster Werner Heisenberg, to download and print.
The poster is a black and white portrait of the great scientist Werner Heisenberg.
German theoretical physicist, he is the author of the first matrix formalization of quantum mechanics, in parallel to Schrödinger’s wave formalization. With Wolfgang Pauli, he advanced quantum field theory.

Biography of Werner Karl Heisenberg
German physicist and principal founder of quantum mechanics, Karl Heisenberg was born on December 5, 1901 in Würzburg, Germany.
Son of August Heisenberg and Annie Wecklein, Werner studied mathematics, languages and music at the age of nine at the Maximilian High School in Munich.
After finishing high school, he entered the University of Munich and received his doctorate at the age of 22.
In 1924, he worked with Max Born in Göttingen as an assistant and then with Niels Bohr on a scholarship in Copenhagen. At only 26 years old, Werner was already one of the most brilliant physicists in Germany and his excellent professional career began when he took the position of professor of atomic physics at the University of Leipzig in 1927.
Very famous for his work in quantum physics, Werner Heisenberg was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1932. From 1942 to 1945, he taught at Humboldt University in Berlin and directed the Kaiser-Wilhelm Institute of Physics in Dahlem.
During the Second World War, Werner dedicated his work to the Nazi regime and directed the German nuclear weapons program. His links with other Jewish or exiled physicists, including Albert Einstein, were the source of summonses and interrogations by the Nazi authorities.
Werner Heisenberg was single until he met Elisabeth Schumacher (1914-1998) in January 1937 during a musical evening in Leipzig. They married and started a family of seven children, including a physicist Jochen Heisenberg, a neurobiologist and geneticist Martin Heisenberg.
In addition to the works already mentioned which make him an influential figure in contemporary theoretical physics, Werner Heisenberg is the author of several works on quantum physics and its philosophical implications.
He died of kidney cancer on February 1, 1976 at the age of 74.
