Biography of Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, Germany. Considered one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century, he revolutionized scientific thought and the conception of the universe with his fundamental theory of relativity.

Albert Einstein had two children from his marriage to Mileva Maric in 1903: Hans Albert and Eduard. He then divorced Mileva in 1919 to marry Elsa Löwenthal shortly after. His work on the theory of relativity and on the photoelectric effect earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. He collaborated with illustrious personalities and scientific figures such as Chaim Weizmann, Paul Langevin, Marie Curie, Niels Bohr, Max Planck, etc.

During his career, Einstein traveled to several countries. He obtained his doctorate in 1905 at the University of Zurich, and taught as a professor in the same country in 1909, then in Prague in 1911. After returning to Zurich in 1912, the physicist moved to Berlin and held the position of Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Physics.

He also taught as a professor at the University of Berlin and obtained German citizenship. Albert Einstein renounced his German citizenship in 1933 after Adolf Hitler took power and moved to the United States. With his theory on the interchangeability of mass, Einstein paved the way for the use of nuclear energy to create the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project.

In the United States, he worked as a professor of theoretical physics at Princeton. The physicist officially became an American citizen in 1940, but retired five years later.

However, he was very active in the scientific community during the last years of his life. His debates with the physicist Niels Bohr on the validity of quantum theory allowed him to integrate the latter’s theories into his work.

Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955, at the age of 76, following a ruptured aneurysm.
